Our 100% organic breakfast tea - a smooth blend of black teas with a familiar malty flavour and aroma of honey. This special loose leaf blend combines two of the finest certified organic tea leaves we could find - Assam Hathikuli and Darjeeling Ambootia Spring 1st flush (FTGFOP1).

To serve: Use fresh boiling water (90+ degrees). Brew to taste for 3-5 minutes, to avoid bitterness it’s important not to leave the bag in. Delicious with milk, sugar, ice, honey or lemon but be sure to smell and taste the tea first. We would recommend using your favourite teapot, an infuser or a compostable, unbleached drawstring diy tea-filter available in our shop.

What does FTGFOP1 mean? it's an industry term indicating the quality of tea leaves. The longer the number the better the taste, when you see this code you can trust the tea leaves are the best. The worst crushed broken leaves are used in most wellknown brands, these are graded as fannings or dust. FTG (Finest Tippy Golden) indicates that the tea has a lot of fine, light coloured tips. Tasty tips are a lighter shade since they do not contain as much cell sap that turns dark during oxidation (fermentation). The 2nd F (for flowery) means that tender and delicate flower buds were picked. OP stands for Orange Pekoe, which has nothing to do with the colour, it comes from the Dutch word oranje = royal and Pekoe (or pak-ho in Chinese) which translates to white, referring to the fine fluff under young shoots. The 1 indicates the care with which the tea was plucked – just two leaves and a bud with the coarser leaves remaining on the tea bush

Origin: Like most breakfast teas the leaves from the Camelia sinensis plant used in this blend were grown in Assam - a region of India. What makes our Brunch blend special is the fact that the we only use the highest grade of tea leaves from certified organic tea gardens in Assam & Darjeeling. Hathikuli in Assamese means "Hathi" (elephant) and "Kuli" (frequent) as it borders the Kaziranga National Park, a refuge for wild rhinos, tigers and elephants who like also to visit the tea garden. We create this unique blend by adding the perfect amount of leaves from Darjeeling Ambootia (Springs 1st flush) one of the most well-known tea estates in Darjeeling. In 1994, this tea garden was one of the first to transition to 100% certified organic and bio-dynamic production and became certified Fair Trade in 1994.
